What the Blxck?! | A Big Fish is Jumping into the NFT Market
Topic at a Glance…
· The world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange is jumping into the NFT market, immediately exposing their 15,000,000 users to the opportunity to purchase and trade collectibles.
· They’ve also announced their very first high-profile collaboration: Bayern Munich star, Alphonso Davies.
Binance announced earlier this year that they would be launching their very own NFT marketplace in an attempt to “bring together artists, creators and crypto enthusiasts from around the world.”
“Our aim is to provide the largest NFT trading platform in the world with the best minting, buying and exchanging experience, by leveraging the fastest and cheapest solutions powered by Binance blockchain infrastructure and community,” — Helen Hai, Head of Binance NFT.
Exposing the Market
Leveraging a connection with already existent Binance accounts, the launch will expose over 15,000,000 crypto-users and $60 billion of daily trading volume to the collectibles marketplace.
“Binance serves millions of users around the world, many of whom will now be able to access the booming NFT space,” — Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, CEO of Binance.
Binance’s entry into the NFT collectibles space promises to upend an industry whose current leader, Open Sea, boast just a fraction of Binance’s users (100,000) and trading volume ($354 million). The current largest NFT marketplace, dubbed the “Amazon of NFTs,” just raised $23 million in an investment funding round from what are sure to be now-nervous investors.
Assisting a successful launch is a promised lineup of celebrity collaborations, the first of which will be with Bayern Munich start Alphonso Davies, created by illustrator Jack Perkins. There will be three limited-edition NFTs, shaped in part by voting conducted on social media, as well as one “golden ticket” winner that will get to meet Alphonso Davies and receive a signed piece of gear.
“It’s been crazy to see the way crypto has grown over the years to the point where I feel now it’s changing the game through NFTs and providing another opportunity for genuine engagement with fans…Away from football I am always looking into new technological changes to help engage with people across the world, and this is just another layer to my digital presence.” — football star Alphonso Davies.
